Akkordeon and Friends
We are musicians from Western Michigan and Northwest Indiana who get together to play traditional German music as a small group. This is modeled after a tradition in small German communities, where local musicians simply gather around a table in a local restaurant for a "Musikantenstammtisch," with whatever instruments they happen to have. We have several brass players, alphorns, singing, and more! The music includes German and Austrian tunes, with an occasional American polka thrown in.
Jon (Mr. Akkordeon) will happily play his accordion any time, any place. He is especially fond of acquiring various accordion models, but he has recently 'downsized' and has to limit his acquisitions.
Sandy (friend) plays a Weltmeister Kristall piano akkordeon and occasionally rings a set of chromatic clappered cowbells, also known as kuhglocken, almglocken, alpenglocken and alpine bells.
Bill (friend) plays happily along on his Weltmeister akkordeon.
Allen (friend) keeps the rhythm going with his Wagner tuba, substituting this French horn-friendly instrument for a bass tuba. He also plays alphorn.
Judy (friend/Mrs. Akkordeon) sings the German folk tunes and plays alphorn. She knows the words!
JP (friend) hails from Chesterton, IN, and adds bass on tuba. And alphorn too!
Julie (friend) also from Chesterton, IN, adds alto horn and alphorn.
